Appeal Court judges overturn ban on cabin crew action
The British Airways (BA) cabin crew strike is back on, after the Court of Appeal this morning overturned a decision banning the industrial action.
On Monday, the High Court ruled the walkout by 12,000 cabin crew had to be called off, and upheld BA’s claim that the Unite union had not followed strict legislation on industrial action.
But Unite appealed against the decision and the ruling has been overturned by three senior judges.
Outside the court, Unite’s joint General Secretary, Derek Simpson, said strike action would begin on Monday, and he urged BA to enter negotiations.
Initially, Unite announced its members would strike on 18-22 May, 24-28 May, 30 May-3 June and 5-9 June.
BA World Cargo said it had prepared a contingency plan and that it would run a large part of its operations normally.
The cabin crews are striking over changes to working practices and job cuts.
