New claims procedure could save carriers thousands
A new paperless claims system for lost and damaged parcels is set to save carriers thousands of dollars and improve customer relationships.
The online claims system, launched by carrier management firm Global Freight Solutions (GFS), has cut the time it takes to resolve a claim by a week.
Previously, some customers had to wait up to six months to discover if they were to receive compensation, GFS said. It also standardises the claims process across all carriers using the system.
GFS MD Neil Cotty, said: “The logistics industry is one based on relationships and reliability. “Quite often, friction created by lost or damaged parcels was a key reason behind those relationships breaking down.
“Customers have, historically, found it difficult to cope with a single carrier’s claims system. That headache was often multiplied because every carrier had its own individual approach.” The system, which was launched following a two month trial, also allows customers and carriers to track shipments.
“It has also meant that because claims are generated out of shipment data which is constantly updated by our industry-leading track-and-trace mechanism, there is a hugely reduced potential to make a bogus claim,” Cotty said.
