Figures for May from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) reveal year-on-year growth of 39% growth in international traffic measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTK).

International cargo load factors for the month climbed 8.7 percentage points to reach 72.6%, despite a 22% growth in freight capacity.

Andrew Herdman, AAPA Director General, said that over the first five months of the year, international freight volumes carried by Asia Pacific carriers had “bounced back sharply”, climbing 35.6% overall after last year’s slump. “The latest set of air traffic figures confirm the underlying strength of the economic recovery, led by dynamic growth in the Asia Pacific region,” he added.
