Indonesia has operationalised the India-Association of South East Asia Nations (Asean) free trade agreement (FTA) on goods from October 1.
Thus, Indonesia has become the sixth member-country in Asean to implement the FTA.
The five other countries are Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand.
Although the Indo-Asean trade agreement was signed in August 2009, some countries had to complete their internal formalities before formally implementing the agreement.
Trade with Indonesia is estimated at $ 12 billion in 2009-10. India-Asean bilateral trade was estimated at about $ 45 billion in the same fiscal.
