Warning of tsunami issued, no new problems at nuclear plant

Another strong earthquake struck near the northeast coast of Japan Thursday, April 7, nearly a month after the initial disaster of March 11. The quake registered 7.4 on the Richter scale.

The Japan meteorological agency issued a warning of a second tsunami for the coastal area already severely damaged by the one last month.

According to NHK, Japan’s public television, Tokyo Electric Power said there are no additional problems at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant.

Thursday's quake hit 25 miles under the water, officials said, off Japan's eastern coast about 60 miles from Sendai and 90 miles from Fukushima. It was about 215 miles from Tokyo, where buildings shook for about a minute.

Hundreds of aftershocks have shaken the northeast region devastated by the March 11 earthquake, but few have been stronger than 7.0, according to MSNBC.
