IN opposition to the divestment of government shares in state-run banks, outsourcing of routine banking jobs and use of World Bank loans for bank recapitalization, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), the umbrella organization of bank unions, has threatened to go on an all-India bank strike on August 5.
While the UFBU said that around 10 lakh bank employees would be joining the strike to demand the scrapping of Khandelwal Committee recommendations for introducing variable pay and regular HR audit, Mr Shyamal Karmakar, the union's Bengal convenor, informed that employees of private and foreign banks too would join forces with their public sector counterparts in the protest.
