According to a European Union (EU) report, the governments in Europe are threatening to break off negotiations with India on a free trade deal that the EU hopes would be worth 175 billion euros a year.

Frustrated with the slow pace of the talks, which began four years ago, EU Trade Ministers have reportedly resolved to give an ultimatum for the deal to be in place by February 2012. "Otherwise, the offer would come off the table", they warned.

Official reports have quoted EU Ministers as saying, "A message will be passed to India that if by the time of the summit (scheduled for February) there is no agreement, there would need to be a pause in the negotiations".
